The fourth meeting of the year 2025 was held on November 1, 2025, at Chez Mireille

restaurant. The meeting was called to order at 7:00 pm. There was a total of 49

members in attendance.

The president reminded the participants of the vision and goals of the society. Then he

asked for a moment of silence for Melissa Chioma Rousseau, wife of our

communication Committee chair, Dr. Reginald Rousseau, who passed away

unexpectedly and Mr. Guy Duroseau, brother and brother-in-law of our members Drs.

Herold and Gardith Joseph Duroseau, who died following a long illness.

Next, he congratulated Dr. Alexandra Guillaume, who was recently honored at the Annual Gala of the AMHE, Dr. Guitelle St-Victor, who presented at Congress of the European

Academy of Psychosomatic Medicine. He also gave praise to Dr., Satterfield, who

became officially the Vice-President of the Medical Society of the State of New York.

Dr. Laroche announced an auction sale of two reproductions of a painting representing

Mc Cune Smith, with the bid starting at $325, while Dr Rodriguez promoted a raffle of a

holiday basket with wine, cheese and snacks, two chocolate boxes and some custom

jewelry.

Next, Dr. Roxanne Connell gave a detailed presentation on all the upgrades of our

website, that will facilitate access and navigation though the site, for registration, dues

payments and sharing of information. She invited the members present to access the

site on their phones and most of them agreed that the process was easy and a lot more

friendly. She announced that all the slates would be erased and that everyone had to

reregister in order to have a more accurate inventory of the membership. She also

implored the members in attendance to pay their dues on time, that is in the first month

of 2026.

At that time, the keynote speaker, Dr. Daniel Laroche, renown ophthalmologist and

founder of the Pan African Glaucoma Association, was introduced and gave a masterful

presentation of Glaucoma. It was very well received, as judged by the numerous

questions that followed.

Dinner was served.

An announcement was made by Dr. Monique Defour Jones regarding the upcoming

meeting of Region 1 of the NMA, which will take place on the island of St Thomas, from

May 21, through May 25, 2026. She also invited all members in attendance to take part

in the Annual Convention and Scientific session of the National Medical Association in

San Juan, Puerto Rico, from July 25, through 29, 2026.

In the absence of Dr. Lufulwabo, the assistant treasurer, Dr. Ketly Michel, gave the

financial report, citing mainly the recent expenses necessitated by the upgrading of our

website. The meeting was generously sponsored by New World Medical, developer of

innovative surgical devices that preserve vision for glaucoma patients. The grant was

$3,000.00. Dr. Michel also invited all the members to renew their membership.

A report was submitted on behalf of Dr. Toles who could not attend due to a prior

commitment.

As part of breast cancer awareness month. Dr. Auguste presented two

hour-long programs on breast cancer on Radio Soleil on October 1 and 8, 2025. Dr.

Fitzclaud Grant and Dr. Carlton Barnswell were invited to give a presentation on Men’s

Health at the Antioch Baptist Church in Hempstead, in November 2025. Dr. Auguste

invited everyone to contribute coats or any articles of warm clothing that will be given to

two centers supporting new immigrants in Brooklyn.

The two McCune Smith paintings were acquired by Drs. Gregory Haskins and Carmen

Rodriguez, while the chocolate baskets were both won by Dr. Carl Guillaume.

The meeting adjourned on duly made and seconded motion at 9:30 PM.

The next meeting is scheduled for January 24, 2026.

Merry Christmas! Happy Kwanzaa and Happy New Year.
